Marrakech guide

Marrakech,
within walking distance.

Recommendations from the people who live here: where we drink tea, where we send guests for dinner, and what is worth your time in the medina. Everything below is walkable from the riad.

View from the first-floor gallery of Riad Tasneem down to the patio fountain, past woven pendant lamps and green zellige floors
Where you are

Right next to the Rahba Lakdima.

The riad sits on Rue Sidi Isshak in Derb Amisgui, directly beside the Rahba Lakdima, one of the oldest market squares in the city: spices, carpets, handcrafts. The leather and metalwork souks are a short walk away.

Jemaa el-Fnaa, the main square of Marrakech, is 500 metres from the front door.

Practical

Small things that make the trip smoother.

  • Taxis: use official petit taxis; from the airport expect roughly 15 to 20 EUR. Agree the price before you get in.
  • Money: exchange offices are everywhere in the medina and rates are similar. Cash matters: the riad itself takes cash only (EUR or MAD).
  • Water: drink bottled water, available at the riad.
  • Tipping: around 10% in restaurants is customary.
  • Safety: the medina is generally safe. Normal care with valuables is enough. If you prefer, we call you a taxi to the door.
  • Language: Arabic and French are the main languages; English works in most tourist places.
