The house

Eight rooms, one patio,
one rooftop.

A traditional riad in the medina of Marrakech: four floors, a patio with a marble fountain, and one of the highest rooftop terraces in our quarter.

The patio of Riad Tasneem: pink marble fountain over a turquoise zellige basin, carved stucco arches, stained-glass lanterns and a traditional fireplace
How the house is laid out

Four floors, built around the patio.

On the ground floor, four rooms sit around the patio with its central marble fountain: Laila, Jannat, Yasmin and Dahab. On the first floor, four more rooms open onto the gallery above the courtyard: Sabah, Zahra, Safaa and Shahrazad.

The second floor holds our kitchen and a covered dining area. The rooftop terrace on the third floor is one of the highest in our quarter of the medina. On clear days the High Atlas is visible to the south.

Four rooms have their own ensuite bathroom, four have a private external bathroom. All rooms have air conditioning and heating in winter.

First-floor gallery at Riad Tasneem: carved wooden balustrade around the courtyard opening, octagonal stucco skylight and brass lanterns
Architecture

Restored, not remade.

The house was bought in 2003 and fully restored before reopening as a guesthouse in 2019. The original crafts are everywhere:

  • Carved stucco ceilings and friezes
  • Hand-cut zellige tilework
  • Tadelakt walls
  • Stained-glass windows and doors
  • Carved cedar balustrades and doors
  • Arched patio architecture with a marble fountain over a turquoise basin
Moroccan breakfast at Riad Tasneem: baghrir and msemen pancakes, marble cake, boiled egg, olives, jams in small tagines, orange juice and coffee on the rooftop
Breakfast

Served on the rooftop, daily 08:00 to 10:30.

Msemen and baghrir, fresh bread, cake, jam, eggs, cheese, yoghurt, olives, mint tea and coffee. Breakfast is included in the room rate. Vegetarian and vegan options on request.

Beyond breakfast, we prepare lunch or dinner from our own kitchen on request: Moroccan classics, cooked traditionally. Ask us for the menu and prices.

The covered dining room on the second floor of Riad Tasneem: banquettes with terracotta cushions, wooden tables and a glazed front towards the patio skylight
The dining room

A covered room on the second floor.

Between the rooms and the rooftop sits the second floor, with our kitchen and a covered dining area: banquettes along the walls, wooden tables, and a glazed front that looks towards the patio skylight.

This is where meals happen when the rooftop is too hot or too cool. Lunch and dinner from our own kitchen on request; the menu with prices comes with your booking.

Covered rooftop lounge at Riad Tasneem: kilim sofas along palm reliefs in the brick wall, Berber rugs and views over the rooftops of the medina
The rooftop

One of the highest in the quarter.

The terrace on the third floor looks out over the rooftops of the medina, with the High Atlas on the horizon on clear days. Breakfast is served up here, and it is the one place in the house where smoking is allowed.

Shaded lounge corners, plants and low Moroccan seating make it the natural place to end the day.

Hammam

Our partner: Hammam des Epices.

We do not have a hammam in the house. Instead we work with the Hammam des Epices on the Rahba square, a few minutes on foot from the riad: traditional hammam, gommage and massage. We are happy to arrange appointments for you; prices and packages on request.
